We neutralize our carbon footprint

Cooler has conservatively estimated our carbon footprint at 14kg of CO2e from cradle-to-shelf, including Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions.

For comparison, the average American household has a carbon footprint of 48,000kg of CO2e/year.

We know games
have a carbon footprint

Cooler calculates the carbon footprint of every board game we print, from raw material extraction all the way to the retail shelf or to your doorstep. This includes manufacturing, packaging, transportation, and even the air conditioning and lighting of the retail store. Almost 400 categories of emissions in total!

So what do we do with that knowledge?

We help shut down coal plants and other polluters

Cool charges us based on the footprint, and uses the money to buy emission permits away from tightly-regulated carbon markets in the U.S. There are only a certain number of permits available, and once Cooler buys up those permits, polluters have to find more sustainable ways to operate, stopping pollution at its source. This is a much more rigorous approach than carbon offsets, since offsets allow polluters to continue business as usual.
